Special Lion

Lion Walter

We thank you!

All the Lions at the Poplar Hill & District Lions Club are dedicated to the community and helping the running of events, BBQs and special fundraisers. As a Charter Member from our Club’s inception on May 25, 1979, Lion Walter has done exactly that.
But Lion Walter has also been a past President of our Club, a Committee Member on so many of our events and projects, particularly to run our highly successful Chicken Dinner, Pancake Breakfast, Forest City Bingo, Ham and Turkey Bingo and many, many BBQs to name a few.
Back in 2018, Lion Walter received the Lions Club International Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest a Lion could be awarded, for his amazing service.
The pictures show the presentation of the special award by our Club President Lion Barney to Lion Walter. Lion Walter explained to the players at the Poplar Hill & District Lions 22nd Trivia Challenge (who gave him a standing ovation) how he helped to start the Trivia Night and how he has shaped the event to become our biggest annual fundraiser, which is almost folklore in our community.

Lion Walter also helps out at the Ailsa Craig & Area Foodbank & Thrift Store with a few other Lions to sort and box the donations of food that arrives there. A picture of Lion Walter and his wife Marg, a longstanding member of the South Lobo Women’s Institute, shows what a great team they are!
The evening’s tribute and award (shown on the photo here) at the Poplar Hill & District Lions 22nd Trivia Challenge from his own Lion’s Club members show how highly Lion Walter is thought of and to recognize his gift of over 45 years of none-stop giving in the Poplar Hill & District Lions Club to his community!

“WE SERVE”, our Lion’s motto, could not be written in big enough capital letters.
